Corvairs Split Opening Weekend at Home

The Caledonia Pro-Fit Corvairs opened their 2025-26 season with a busy home weekend at the Haldimand C.C.C., dropping their opener to the St. Marys Lincolns on Saturday before bouncing back with a thrilling victory over the Fort Erie Meteors on Sunday night.

Game 1 – St. Marys 3, Caledonia 1 (Saturday, Sept. 13)
In front of a packed crowd of 1,249, the Corvairs fought hard but couldn’t find their offense early against the Lincolns. St. Marys struck twice in the second period, adding a third early in the final frame to take control.

Caledonia broke through on the power play midway through the third when Brayden Hobson scored the team’s first goal of the season, assisted by Ethan Quick and Nathan Marincola. Goaltender Maverick Fletcher stood tall with 31 saves, but the Lincolns’ strong special teams proved the difference in a 3-1 final.

Game 2 – Caledonia 5, Fort Erie 4 (Sunday, Sept. 14)
The Corvairs wasted no time shaking off Saturday’s result, battling to a gutsy 5-4 win over Fort Erie in front of 250 fans.

Captain Ty McHutchion opened the scoring late in the first with his first of the season, setting the tone for a hard-fought night. After Fort Erie answered with two goals in the second, Connor Sooley responded just 20 seconds later with his first career GOJHL goal to even things at 2-2.

The third period brought more milestone moments. Alexander Davies buried his first career GOJHL goal to tie the game at 3-3, before Ethan Quick and Brayden Russell struck less than three minutes apart to give Caledonia a 5-2 lead. Fort Erie made it interesting with two late tallies, but goaltender Caleb Shuker closed the door, finishing with 30 saves on 34 shots to secure the club’s first win of the season.

Looking Ahead
The Corvairs (1-1) return to the Haldimand C.C.C. for two more home games this weekend. They host the Brantford Titans on Friday night, followed by the Pelham Panthers on Saturday evening.
